COBOC, in partnership with Birmingham's Be active programme and the Birmingham Outdoor Learning Service, are delivering a development plan across
Birmingham over the next 12 months. The club have been successful in attracting
funds from a variety of sources, including British Orienteering, and have asked
Dave Ellis, a member of COBOC, to lead the developments through his company, Big
Strides Consulting Ltd. The first phase of developments was to introduce
orienteering and other outdoor activities to summer holiday schemes in the
Erdington area of Birmingham, one of Be active's priority areas for increasing
physical activity. The programmes have made use of the "Outdoor Learning Cards",
a nationally accredited scheme for delivering introductory outdoor activities.
The cards include a whole section on orienteering, which Glynn Roberts from
COBOC was instrumental in writing and testing.
