|NEW TO ORIENTEERING|
|ABOUT COBOC AND CLUBMARK|
Orienteering is an outdoor sport in which you find your way around a course using a detailed map. For harder courses a compass is also useful. You can walk, jog or run. All ages can take part. It's great fun and you get a great sense of achievement when you successfully complete your course.
What should I wear ?
Running or walking gear recommended – bring a waterproof, spare shoes and warm clothes for after. A compass is useful but not essential for easy courses. Bring a whistle if you have one. You can usually borrow these if necessary.

Many of the parks within Birmingham have been mapped for orienteering. In some parks, such as Sutton Park and the Lickey Hills, permanent courses have been laid and copies of the maps can be obtained from the Park Visitor Centres. This means that you can try it out for your self and see if the prospect of entering a competitive event appeals. For more information about permanent courses click here
Virtual Orienteering courses using GPS are now available. You can download an app such as MapRun6 which provides the map and course on your smart phone. For more information click here
